taverns to describe the condition of being drunk. Among these were: as drunk
ass David's sow, as merry as a grig, buffy canned, disguided, got a dish, gravy-eyed, -has
copped the brewer, has had one over eight, loppy, lumpy, lushy, mops and brooms, muggy,
muzzy, not able to see a hole through a ladder, obfuscated, raddled, ripe,
sewed-up, shows his hobnails, springy, squiffed, swipy, tiddly, top-heavy, weary,

Martini Lore
The Martini is a very serious thng for a bartender. If you don't
make it right you might as well retire.
Tennessee Willaims was a Martini Man. He would go to the bar with his funny little
dog, who would jump on the barstool after the drink was poured. The dog would stick
his nose in the glass, pull out the olive stick and toss it to the floor, where he would
eat it.
